Technology solutions for better service delivery took center stage during the symposium at the Limkokwing University, when the leadership of the civil service interface with academic staff and students in a symposium.
The Minister of Public Administration and Pilitical Affairs, Mr Amara Kallon, said technology is now the mainstay that is driving change and has transformed economies at a rapid scale.
He said though Sierra Leone is far behind in the technology revolution the government has put in place midalities to leverage on technology for efficient and effective service delivery. “ By 2025, Sierra Leone will go cashless and that they are developing an app for electronic time attendance” he concluded.
The Minister challenged students to develop Apps for smart solutions in the energy, water and other critical sectors with a view to enhance service delivery. “We will support any technological solutions that is geared towards effective service delivery” he stressed.
The Director of Public Sector Reform Unit, Mr Sulaiman Phoray-Musa, pointed out that technology and digitalization are the drivers that have rapidly transformed economies and enhance development, noting that, Sierra Leone will utilize the full potentials of technology for transformative change.
The Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Mr. Kalilu O. Bah, said their recruitment processes are fair and transparent as they want to attract the best brains to contribute towards national development.
Mr K.O. Bah said the Commission is working on developing an App to facilitate on-line application. “When the App is completed it will give more credibility to the recruitment process as it will reduce human contact on the recruitment of competent and qualified Sierra Leoneans” he stressed.
The Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, Mr John Sumailah said the leadership of the Civil Service targeted Limkokwing University in this year’s symposium to impress on the minds of students and academic staff about the importance of technology in driving sociology-economic development.
He said the symposium will provide opportunities for students that intend to work in the civil service to know about the mode of operation service and the dichotomy between the civil and public service.
The Director of Service Delivery Unit in the Office of the President, Mr Cyrus Sheriff, said the unit was created by President Julius Maada Bio to ensure that services are delivered to the public on a timely manner through effective monitoring.
The Head of Campus, Madam Agnes M. Mugo, said, hosting the symposium is a demonstration of their commitment to partner with the leadership of the civil service to leverage on technology for effective service delivery.
