The Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU), on Saturday 23rd March, 2024 commenced a three (3) day validation meeting on the Management and Functional Review Report conducted for the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) to identify gaps, systems and processes for effective functioning of the Commission.
The retreat, which took place at the Kobiebu Village Hotel, Bo District brought together key stakeholders including staff from the Right to Access Information Commission.
In his opening courtesies, the Director of the Public Sector Reform Unit, Mr Sulaiman Phoray-Musa, said that, the MFR report is to assess the operational systems and processes of the RAI Commission and to proffer smart recommendations that would strengthen the Commission’s mandate, systems and processes and also develop a sustainable organic structure that is in line with the broader objectives of the government as articulated in the Medium Term National Development Plan of 2024-2030.
He stated that the methodology used to generate data for the MFR Report included structured and semi-structured interviews, administering of questionnaires to junior and senior management of the Commission and other stakeholders within the Sector.
The MFR Report process, the PSRU Director concluded, started in January 2024 with an inception meeting held at the RAIC Conference Hall at Kroo Town Road; wherein discussions on the scope, methodologies and timeline for the MFR Report were discussed.
The Chairman/Information Commissioner, Dr Ibrahim Seaga Shaw commended the PSRU Review Team for a job well done; stating that the idea for the retreat was resounding as it helped participants to famaliarise themselves with the review process and the MFR Report.
Dr Shaw stated that after the MFR Report would have been validated by the Steering Committee on Public Sector, it would be the responsibility of the Commission to hold government institutions accountable for non-compliance.
He concluded by stating that, the findings and recommendations from the MFR Report would provide the Commission with a solid foundation for future endeavors, while at the same time promoting transparency and accountability in the governance landscape in Sierra Leone.
The Chief of Programmes, PSRU, Mr Albert Williams encouraged the commission to implement the recommendations contained in the MFR as it woukd help them to be productive and efficient.
