The Public Sector Reform Unit, PSRU, has held an inception meeting with the Ministry of Sports and it’s agencies on the conduct of Management and Functional Review, MFR.
Welcoming the review team, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of sports, Mr Salieu K Jusu, said the Ministry is in dire need of a MFR, indicating that there are series of challenges in the Ministry and it’s agencies regarding duplicating roles and responsibilities, particularly with the National Sporting Agency (NSA) and other new positions that have been established within the Ministry since the last MFR was conducted in 2018.
The Chief of Programmes in the PSRU Mr Albert Williams expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Director to the Ministry of Sports for requesting their expertise in conducting the MFR.
He advised the Ministry to invite the sporting agencies so as to have their full participation in the entire process as the review will cover the whole sporting sector and not just the Ministry.
During his presentation, Mr Williams gave the mandate, vision and mission of the PSRU which is in line with the Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP).
He outlined the methodology that will be used throughout the process, among which are; desk reviews, focus group discussions, interviews and administering of questionnaires.
He revealed that the MFR will examined the Human Resource Management, Organisational Structure, Communications and ICT, Asset and Equipment as well as Supervisory functions of the Ministry and its agencies.
Staff of the Ministry expressed satisfaction over the review process stating that it is timely and will address duplications and clarify roles between the Ministry and its agencies so to improve productivity and service delivery.
