The Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President, Ms Mantty Tarawallie has officially launched the Strategic Road Map for the Revamp of the Public Service Architecture at a well attended ceremony by top civil and public servants.
The Chairman of the event Amb Sullay Daramy in his opening remarks expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Political Affairs and Public Administration for the trust and honor bestowed on him to be the chair person.
He expressed his happiness that a comprehensive plan has been put together that will reform the public service into one that is fit for purpose. A public service that is responsive and effective in the delivery of services.
The Chairman noted that reform in this sector is long overdue and applauded the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs in champion this initiative.
Ambassador Daramy explained that the public service is the heart of the country’s national development which acts as the backbone that supports our aspirations for a prosperous and equitable society.
Various representatives from World Bank, United Nations Development Programs (UNDP), Public Service Commission, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development as well as the Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs made valuable contributions on the importance of the Strategic Road Map and the potential it has to shape the public service.
During his presentation, the Director of Public Sector Reform Unit Sulaiman Phoray Musa reinforced the importance of the Strategic Road Map as it aims to promote collaboration and eliminate departmental silos.
He highlighted the successes and challenges that the Public service has been experiencing over the years. Among the successes he stated is the Decentralization programme, the establishment of the Anti-Corruption commission and the Promotion of Gender and Social Inclusion.
Mr. Phoray-Musa underscored that the strategy was developed on eight policy target identified as critical drivers for public transformation;
Strategic and Structural Alignment of MDAs, Human Resource Management/Man power Planning, Public Sector Coordination and Management, Monitoring Evaluation and Performance Management for Effective Public Service Delivery, Pay and Incentives, E-governance, Gender and Social Inclusion and Communications and Citizen Engagement.
He noted that there is a robust implementation plan in place to ensure the success of the Strategic Road Map.
The Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President, Madam Mantee Tarawallie stated that the Vice President has provided critical support in pushing forward the agenda of revamping the public service architecture emphasizing that Sierra Leone as a country should rally behind the transformative strategy document to ensure implementation and change the trajectory to where we want to go.
On behalf of the Vice President Hon. Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, she officially launched the Strategic Road Map for the Revamp of the Public Service Architecture.
